We are two mums each with a child with multiple food allergies and we’ve written two books, The Allergy-Free Family Cookbook and The Allergy-Free Baby and Toddler Cookbook published by Orion.

Every recipe in the Allergy-Free Family Cookbook is:

  • dairy-free
  • egg-free
  • peanut-free
  • treenut-free
  • soya-free
  • gluten-free
  • sesame-free
  • shellfish-free

In addition every recipe form The Allergy-Free Baby and Toddler Cookbook is also:

  • fish-free
  • celery-free
  • mustard-free
  • lupin-free
  • sulphite-free

We believe in making healthy but delicious, child-friendly meals using normal, everyday ingredients that can be readily found in supermarkets.

Both our children’s allergies have persisted and they’ve not outgrown them yet as many allergic children do. This means we’ve lived with food allergy for years and have become the people friends and friends of friends come to when they have questions about food allergy. Questions range from the basic ‘What on earth can I feed my kids now I can’t give them dairy and wheat?’ to ‘Where can I eat out and how do I make sure the food is OK for my child?’  to questions about  travelling, carrying medicines, starting school and nursery as well as requests for recommendations for ready-made free-from food from chocolate to bread to mayonnaise.

We’ve gained a lot of experience over the years through trial (and often error!) and would like to share our tips.

Some of the blogs we’ve come across focus on how tough living with food allergy is and how sad it is for the kids to be missing out and this isn’t really our experience at all. Food allergy can have serious consequences and you need to be careful but we’ve found it doesn’t have to be a nightmare to manage.

We’d like to share our personal experience with you and we’d love to hear from you too if you have children with food allergy.
